Samsung Washer Error Codes
Samsung Washer Error Codes: find your code, try the safe step, and book if it does not clear.
Samsung Washer Error Codes explained in plain words: what the display says, the safe thing to try first, and when to book a technician.
These codes come from Samsung’s US support page for washing machines. Write the code down before you reset the washer, because Samsung notes that a reset clears the error history a technician would use.
Codes vary by model: check your manual or the model label.
Before you try anything: switch the appliance off and unplug it, or turn off its breaker, before you touch a hose, filter or panel. Do not open the control board or electronics, and never bypass a safety switch, lock or thermostat to get past a code.
Samsung Washer Error Codes: what each one means
4C, 4E, nF (not filling)
- What the manufacturer says: Water is not entering the washer correctly.
- One safe thing to try: Check that the hoses are not kinked and the tap valves are fully open, and that hot goes to hot and cold goes to cold.
- Book a technician when: the code returns after you have checked the hoses and valves.
4C2, 4E2, CE (hot and cold swapped)
- What the manufacturer says: The cold supply is extremely hot because the hoses are swapped.
- One safe thing to try: Swap the hoses so cold goes to cold and hot goes to hot (Samsung says typically blue to blue and red to red).
- Book a technician when: never, if swapping the hoses clears it. Samsung says no service is needed.
5C, 5E, SC, SE, nd (no drain)
- What the manufacturer says: Water is not draining at the correct speed, or at all.
- One safe thing to try: Check the drain hose for kinks and blockages.
- Book a technician when: water stays in the drum after you have checked the hose, or the code returns.
OE, OC, 0E, 0C (overflow)
- What the manufacturer says: There is too much water in the washer.
- One safe thing to try: Turn off the water taps and unplug the washer. This is our advice, not a repair step.
- Book a technician when: straight away. Do not keep running a washer that is taking in too much water.
LE, LC, 1E, 1C (water level or leak)
- What the manufacturer says: Moisture is where it should not be, or the sensor is faulty.
- One safe thing to try: Look for a leak and check the hoses are not kinked. Samsung also says to run empty cycles without detergent or softener until suds stop, then check again.
- Book a technician when: the code persists with no suds and no visible leak.
dE, dS, d5, FL, LO, dC (door)
- What the manufacturer says: The door is not detected as closed and locked.
- One safe thing to try: Check the latch, make sure nothing is caught in the door, and close it properly. On some models dC means an unbalanced load instead.
- Book a technician when: the latch or the door is damaged, or the code returns with the door clearly shut.
UE, Ub, U6, dc (unbalanced load)
- What the manufacturer says: The load is unbalanced. Samsung says Ur only means the washer is retrying the balance, not a fault.
- One safe thing to try: Untangle and spread out the laundry, close the door and restart. On some models dc means a door error instead.
- Book a technician when: it keeps happening with small, evenly spread loads.
9C1, 9C2, PF, UC, 2E, 9E1 (voltage)
- What the manufacturer says: The power supply is irregular. PF means a power failure.
- One safe thing to try: Plug the washer into its own circuit without an extension cord. On some models 3E means a motor error instead.
- Book a technician when: the code continues on a dedicated outlet.
E2, bE2, 6E2 (jammed button)
- What the manufacturer says: A control panel button is stuck or held down.
- One safe thing to try: Power off, then press each button once, working it back and forth.
- Book a technician when: a button is damaged or the code returns.
SUd, Sd, 5d (excess suds)
- What the manufacturer says: Too much detergent is causing over-sudsing.
- One safe thing to try: Let the washer pause and continue, and use less detergent next time.
- Book a technician when: you see suds repeatedly with a correct amount of detergent.
3C, E3 (motor)
- What the manufacturer says: A motor error. Samsung gives general steps only.
- One safe thing to try: Power off for 2 to 3 minutes, power on and restart the cycle.
- Book a technician when: the code returns after the restart.
tE, tC (temperature sensor)
- What the manufacturer says: A temperature sensor error. Samsung gives general steps only.
- One safe thing to try: Power off for 2 to 3 minutes, power on and restart the cycle.
- Book a technician when: the code returns after the restart.
If the code keeps coming back
A code that returns after the basic checks points to a part, not the way you loaded the washer. We repair Samsung washers; see our Samsung page and our washer repair page. When you are ready, book a visit or call (916) 582-7791. the visit is $80, and we explain the cause and your options before any repair.

Questions about samsung washer error codes
Should I reset my Samsung washer when it shows a code?+
Write the code down first. Samsung says a reset clears the error history, which makes it harder to diagnose. If you reset once and the code returns, book a visit.
My Samsung washer says 5C. Is the drain pump broken?+
5C means the washer is not draining correctly. A kinked or blocked drain hose is a common cause, but if it persists after you check the hose, a technician should look at the drain system.
Is it safe to keep using the washer with a code showing?+
For overflow or leak codes, no. Turn off the water and unplug it. For codes like unbalanced load or suds, Samsung says the washer pauses and continues.
